Based on the Conclusion of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the projects providing free public rail transport for children, primary and secondary school pupils, full-time students, pensioners, and persons aged 65 and over will continue. In addition, from 1 January 2026, free public rail transport within the Republic of Croatia will also be available to persons with disabilities who hold a National/European Disability Card marked as eligible for train travel.
All the above-mentioned categories of passengers who have permanent residence in Istria County will also be able to travel free of charge on direct trains on the Pula – Zagreb – Pula route from January 2026. Tickets must be collected at the ticket office. Passengers who do not have permanent residence in Istria County must purchase tickets at the regular price.
As a reminder, direct trains on the Zagreb – Ljubljana – Pula route (and vice versa) were reintroduced on 20 June 2025. Trains operate on Fridays from Zagreb to Pula and on Sundays from Pula to Zagreb.
This measure provides passengers with a safer and more accessible mode of transport without the need for transfers, thereby further encouraging the use of public transport and improving transport connectivity for Istria County.
